How Ziply Fiber is different

Reliably Fast

Our fiber network is being built to never exceed 40% of capacity at peak hours, unlike other companies who run their network at 80%+ capacity with no room to support a failure without a slow down.

Consistently On

We are engineering our core and aggregation networks to be fully redundant, with a dual infrastructure that maintains customer connections even when an issue arises on the network.

Confidently Ready

Your network is only as good as the investment your provider puts into it. And at Ziply Fiber, we’re investing over $500 million of working capital in the communities we serve.

Honestly Local

Unlike Frontier, which is headquartered in Norwalk, CT. We are local and headquartered in Kirkland, WA, with offices across the region. Serving your business is our priority.

Why choose fiber for your business

Unlike cable providers who are repurposing old television technology to provide internet service, Ziply Fiber is purpose-building the entire network to deliver the fastest, most reliable internet straight to your business.

We are designing our network to never surpass 40% capacity. So, unlike cable, we have no need to impose data caps or throttle speed to reduce congestion on an aging network.

Fiber is as fast up as it is down making it the best option for an office full of heavy internet users, who video conference and use cloud solutions everyday.

More fiber is on the way

We’re going all in on fiber internet to homes and businesses. We have an aggressive plan to bring new fiber to cities and towns across the region, starting in September 2020.

Frequently Asked Questions about Internet Speed

Several factors can slow your internet speed:

  • Use of WiFi instead of a wired connection
  • Components within your computer, such as processor speed, amount of available memory, operating system, and computer configuration
  • The number of applications that are running at the same time
  • The number of computers or other devices that share your internet connection
  • The quality and condition of the wiring that connects your computer(s) to the Ziply Fiber network
  • Unusual events like a network outage and equipment failure may also reduce speed temporarily

For the most accurate results, we recommend using the desktop version of the Speedtest application with a wired connection.

Before starting the test, be sure to:

  • Connect your computer directly to your router using an ethernet cable.
  • Disconnect from any VPNs.
  • Make sure no other device is connected to your internet during the test.
  • Avoid using video or music streaming apps during the test.

Testing speeds over WiFI or with web browsers may provide inaccurate results.

Download the free Speedtest® app today for the quickest way to check your connectivity.

It’s first important to note, when running a speed test on a WiFi device, you're testing the speed of your wireless WiFi network, not the broadband speed delivered by your Fiber service.

To get the best possible speed make sure your device:

  • Meets or exceeds the recommended system requirements, or you're likely to experience slower than expected speeds
  • Is connected to the Ziply Fiber Gateway using a wired gigabit ethernet connection
  • Is plugged in and not running on battery power, or set up with a power-saving profile
  • Is using the latest browser version available
  • Has a limited number of other applications running (or none). Some applications, including security software, can affect a speed test. You can turn off these applications and run your speed test, but be sure to turn any security applications back on afterward.

In general, a device should meet these minimum specifications to perform well on a Ziply Fiber connection.

Windows
  • Windows 7 or higher
  • 1.2 GHz Processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 100Mbps Ethernet Card
Mac
  • OSX 10.3.9 or higher
  • 2 GHz Processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 100Mbps Ethernet Card

To get the most out of a speed test, and your use of the Fiber network, here are the recommended device specifications for Fiber connections:

Windows
  • 64-bit Windows 10 Pro
  • Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.5GHZ or higher
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Gigabit ethernet connection or USB3 or gigabit ethernet adapter
Mac
  • OSX 10.12
  • Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.5GHZ or higher
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Gigabit ethernet connection or Thunderbolt gigabit ethernet adapter

Other factors may cause interference and affect the speed of your WiFi connection, including:

  • Distance from the router
  • Physical buildings such as walls and floors
  • Kitchen equipment (microwave ovens, refrigerators, etc.)
  • Other home gadgets like garage door openers, cordless phones, baby monitors
  • Other WiFi networks in the vicinity
  • Any 802.11b device on the network (it is advised you remove this device from the network)

Identifying the specific interference is difficult and sometimes impossible. To get the best possible WiFi signal, place the router in the location where you use WiFi most, and away from physical obstructions and other devices that may interfere with the WiFi signal. During times when you need the fastest connection possible, use a wired connection to the router.

The browser you use can matter, especially if it is an older version.

For both speed and security purposes, it is important to be using the most updated version of whichever browser you use, whether it is Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge or Explorer.
